Waste

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ Waste Management Program provides each Fairmont property with the necessary tools to monitor, measure, and report waste generation and diversion. By understanding the effects that the operational activities at each Fairmont property have on waste generation, we can identify actions that will reduce the overall generation of waste and move certain types of wastes away from landfills. By measuring waste generated at our properties, we can calculate the impact that this waste has on our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Additionally, some suppliers offer product take-back programs to encourage recycling of certain items (e.g., technology, etc.) that are not easily recycled. Fairmont encourages the use of such programs to reduce the amount of waste generated by properties.

The Waste Management Program was introduced to improve our sustainability efforts with respect to waste management. The overall goals of the Program include:

  • Increase diversion of waste from landfill
  • Reduce the overall waste generated across our portfolio of properties
  • Increase the use of product reuse and take-back initiatives
