The Fairmont Dallas is pleased to announce a special opening reception for Ms. Pamela Nelson’s new exhibit PAPER CUTS on Friday, September 12th from 6:00 –8:00 p.m. PAPER CUTS will feature dynamic collage pieces created during Ms. Nelson’s four-month period as Artist in Residence. "PAPER CUTS is about grief and healing,” said Nelson. “The body of work is exposed on an intimate, deeply personal level that I haven’t really worked at before.” Pieces resonate with vibrant patterns and textures, and a vivid spectrum of hues that reflects Nelson’s passion for color theory. PAPER CUTS will be on view through November 5, 2014.

"Henri Matisse, one of my greatest inspirations, lived in a hotel in his later years,” said Nelson. “As a hotel artist, I have a freedom that is unique. Cleaning and cooking are handled for me; I have the luxury of time.” Established in 2010 to support the local arts community, the Artist in Residence program provides artists with a private studio space and a penthouse suite at the Dallas Arts District hotel.

Ms. Pamela Nelson has exhibited work in over one-hundred national venues including the Dallas Museum of Art, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. and the National Arts Club in New York City. In 2001, she was appointed to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts in Washington D.C. by President George W. Bush, a position in which she served for ten years. Public artworks by Ms. Nelson include a color theory installation at NorthPark Center and a terrazzo floor medallion in the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Ms. Nelson is represented by Craighead Green Gallery.
