Local Tips

Alcohol Consumption
In Kenya, you are required to be over 18 years of age to purchase and/or consume alcoholic beverages.

Throughout the country, the hottest months are December to March. The coastal areas are tropical, with particularly high humidity in April and May, but tempered by monsoon winds. The lowlands are hot but mainly dry, while the highlands are more temperate with four seasons. Nairobi has a very pleasant climate throughout the year due to its altitude. Near Lake Victoria, the temperatures are much higher and rainfall can be heavy.

Credit Cards
Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Kenya. Bank atm machines can be found in major towns and debit cards are also widely used. Accepted methods of payment are: Cash (Kenya Shillings), American Express, Diners Club, Visa (including Visa Check and Debit Cards), MasterCard, JCB Card.

Financial institutions will provide a credible rate of exchange when switching your currency. The hotel's Front Desk can also assist with exchanging small amounts of major currencies. The main currency is Kenya Shilling (KES).

Passport and Visa requirements
A passport is required for all visitors to Kenya. Visas are required for citizens of EU countries, Australia, Britian, Canada and the United States. Residents of other countries should consult with their nearest Kenyan embassy.

ime Zone
Kenya Standard Time is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+3). Kenya is in East Africa Time Zone (EAT).
