Professionals from the Canadian event industry gathered in Toronto last Friday to celebrate the success of nominees from across the country and announce the winners at the 16th Annual Canadian Event Industry STAR Awards Gala

The outside catering service of Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel in Montréal – RE Le Traiteur – was nominated for three events: The Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Ball; the Fundraising Gala of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal; The Grand Evening, fundraising gala of the Grand Prix du Canada benefitting local children’s hospitals.

The Hotel won the Star Award for Best Event in Catering for the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Armando Arruda, Director of RE Le Traiteur was delighted to receive this coveted prize. “We were thrilled to work with Debbie Zakaib, chair of the Ball’s organizing committee, François Dufresne and Danièle Patenaude from the Museum’s Foundation who allowed us much latitude in creating an over-the-top menu” he mentioned. “Our kitchen brigade, under the guidance of our outside catering chef Marc Lintanf, came up with a truly surprising menu that reflected the Prohibition years with clandestine buzz, naughty and humoristic food presentation as well as spectacular dishes” said Arruda.

Debbie Zakaib added that the project bordered on sheer madness. “The guests were so astonished and impressed by the creativity, extravagance and execution of the different courses. All evening long, guests were coming up to us to say how amazing the caterer was”.

The 600 guests of the Gala enjoyed a highly creative and elaborate "Prohibition era" themed menu, that included "Illegal catches"— a Lobster Charlotte with duo of caviar — a course with a unique presentation, covered by a cardboard box, personally addressed to each guest and stamped with postmarks from Columbia to reflect the contraband theme; “Counterfeit Kobe beef” — Braised beef cheek, pipettes filled with truffle sauce and “Magic mushroom” fricassee in a Ziploc bag — served in a metal lunchbox perforated with gunshots. Other highlights included Quails stuffed with foie gras with moonshine sauce, and a very sensual dessert evocating forbidden relations.

Two other events catered by the hotel received top honors: Cava Rose won Best Event Produced for a Charitable Organization (Community Based) for the Vintage Circus themed Valentine's Day Ball and Decor & More won Best Theme Decor Over $75,000 to $100,000 for the Daffodil Ball. Last January, RE Le Traiteur won Best Catered Event Produced By a Hotel Banquet Department for the Daffodil Ball at the International The Special Event 2013 Gala Awards.

RE Le Traiteur is the culinary reference for upscale catered events in Montréal. From serving over 25,000 covers during the Grand Prix du Canada to organizing themed soirées for international conferences or extravagant garden parties for non-profit organizations, the team consistently delivers solid expertise and exceptional quality to every reception.
