Teas, Bees... and a Man Cave

This Father's Day, skip the tie and give dad what he really wants - a man cave for the day. On Sunday, June 19 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Notch8 private dining room at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will be converted for dad's delight and feature his favourite fantasy food with Scotch and beer tastings, and big screen televisions with sports.

A special meat-centric menu starts with samplers of baby back ribs, smoked chicken wings, Scotch eggs and Andouille sausage rolls with house made steak and barbecue sauce. A choice of entrees follows with selections like a Big Daddy omelette (with six eggs, Guinness cheddar, sausage and bacon), a short rib benny with horseradish hollandaise, Notch Your Average burger with porcetta and egg, or double dipped s'more French toast with maple braised bacon, bourbon marshmallow and Nutella. Price is $65 per person (half price for children 12 and under) and includes Man Cave access and samplings along with an entrée from the brunch menu. Guests don't have to tumble down a rabbit hole for the Mad Hatter Tea at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver - they can take the stairs to Notch8's private dining room and be transported into a whimsical world of vintage storybooks, ticking clocks, tilted frames, and tables set with bunny ears napkins. From June through August 31, afternoon tea honours the whacky world of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland with Fairmont's signature tea blends (including a children's bubble gum tea) and a china tier with assorted finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, and goodies like the Ace of Spade blueberry tarts and tiramisu chocolate tea cups from the hotel's pastry shop. Every Sunday, a round of complimentary bubby will be poured to the table with the Most Mad Tea Attire. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are available with advance notice. Served Wednesday to Sundays (except Sunday, June 19) at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm, prices are $54 per person and half price for children ages 12 and under. Everyone could use a fairy godmother now and then. On Friday, July 22 from 1:00 until 3:30 pm, regal wannabes can put on their party frocks and help others at a Princess Tea Party at Fairmont Vancouver Airport to support Canuck Place Children's Hospice.

The red carpet will be rolled out and wee royals will receive a tiara and wand to complement their outfits. A trio of princesses from some of the most beloved movies will make a special appearance to distribute fairy dust for wishes, lead sing-a-longs, and pose for photos with guests.
The special Princess Tea menu features chocolate chip scones with cookie crumbles, homemade apricot jam, Devonshire cream and tea pastries like mini red velvet cupcakes, fruit loop macaron ice cream sandwich, and lemon donut-hole pops. Assorted finger sandwiches include Princess egg salad, Nutella, and cucumber and cream cheese. Adults can enjoy a more grown up version with savory offerings, scones, assorted tea sandwiches and sweets from the hotel's pastry shop. The Princess Tea is part of Vancouver International Airport's popular YVR Take-Off Fridays summer event series which features a variety of entertainment during July and August and reduced parking of $5 for up to four hours.

At Fairmont Waterfront, Executive Chef Suri had a "honey" of an idea to raise awareness for the plight of our winged friends and the important work they do.
To pay homage to them, he created a menu that features 12 foods that depend on bees for pollination. The special three-course Bee Sustainable Pollinator Menu, available through August 31st, is priced at $60 per person and includes Village Farms tomato and melon salad with fresh burrata and basil, pan roasted salmon with apple and fennel pollen chutney, and fresh Krause Farms berries with rooftop honey and brie ice cream.
